PokerRoom Review Details
PokerRoom.com opened in 1999, and promotes itself as a site “developed and maintained by people with genuine knowledge and interest in poker,” with all poker players in mind, it does well to live up to the statement. I personally like playing on this site, and I think if player traffic could be a little more consistent, more players will begin to catch on to this site.
Site/Services
8.9
This is another quality designed site that is well maintained. They also have an online community called “Pokah!,” where poker and gaming (they also have a regular casino section) players can participate in chat forums. Their customer service/response is above average, and they offer multiple deposit/withdrawal options (including Neteller and Firepay). PokerRoom has recently created a feature for Team Tournaments, an exciting way to play real money poker side-by-side against your friends, or with your friends against other teams. Also take on the role as Tournament manager, create a tournament and customize it yourself!
Software/ Graphics
9.5
Software is by Ongame. Very clean and practical graphics, with colors on the darker side (in a good way). Playing on multiple tables is allowed, and only causes minor game delays once in a while. There is a great Statistics tab in the main lobby that allows you to check stats for your entire session, or by the type of game played. One distinctive quality of PokerRoom.com is that they offer a “light” software version that allows you to play online without having to download the software. They also have “Mobile Poker” software that allows you to play Limit Hold’em (play money and real) on certain mobile phones. Another interesting feature is that you can get instant chances of winning info for a hand after going all-in in a Texas Hold'em tournament game (for the downloaded client only). (Mac users can play poker/casino games via online/no download version.)
Games: Variety/Action
8.5
They keep a fairly busy board of Limit, Pot-Limit and No-Limit variations of Texas Hold’em, Omaha and Omaha Hi/Lo (the Omaha games usually thin out first). They also have solid action on their 7-Card Stud tables, but the games can get short-handed early in the night. Other games available are 7-Card Stud Hi/Lo and 5-Card Draw. With more of the activity leaning towards Hold’em games, there is also decent action in the Multi-Table and Sit & Go tournaments as well.
Players: Variety/Action
8.7
While it seems that a good portion of PokerRoom players are fairly solid, it certainly doesn’t mean they are unbeatable. You'll find some consistent action for Hold'em games and tournaments. For Stud, the tables may thin out for a few off-peak hours, but the action is good when the seats are filled. The type of players I encountered, it paid to have a more patient, controlled-aggression style of play.
Promotions
8.3
With an average initial deposit bonus of 20% (up to $100)*, fairly regular reload bonuses, a nice Player Points program, PokerRoom.com was rated slightly in the upper half of poker sites in this category. The player points can be used for entry into daily freeroll tournaments, to purchase cash bonus packages (cash back), and regular cash prizes are awarded to players earning the most Player Points in a certain amount of time. One major promo is "The Become a Poker Pro" tournament, in which the winner will be paid to travel and play in tournaments all over. The prize is stated as being worth over $240,000.
*Download PokerRoom through any links on this page and receive our exclusive 40% up to $100 initial deposit bonus! First deposit must be a minimum $10 to receive bonus. The entire bonus amount will be credited to your account after earning 7 player points for every bonus dollar within sixty days of the deposit. To check bonus status go to your "My Account" page.
Rake
8.5
They only received an average score here because they have a slightly higher rake max for lower level Limit games. For their detailed rake info, go to PokerRoom.com, click on the “Poker” tab in the upper-left; then in the middle of the page, click on “Rules & Info”; then in the left menu click on “Rake Structure.”
